<dc:description>What's in a word? The German word "Ausländer" (roughly translated as foreigner) carries various meanings and connotations for different users. This qualitative study examines what native and non-native speakers of German in Germany associate with the word, how they use it, and whether they agree with the legal definition of the noun. In semi-structured interviews with German-speakers from various backgrounds, we attempt to gain an understanding of the word "Ausländer" and it's role in the at once historically relevant and topical discourse surrounding migration and notions of nationality and belonging.</dc:description>

<dc:description>In this session elicitation of noun phrases was continued. The aim of this session was to examine the roles of crucial grammatical elements within the noun phrase, namely relative pronouns, demonstratives, definite markers, and possessive markers. The consultant was aksed to construct example sentences containing at least one of these elements. Then, it was tested whether or not these elements could be omitted or replaced.

Previously used in her dissertation (Schwiertz 2009), the set was adopted for the means of the fieldwork class. The task was for one of the language consultants to arrange a set of animal cards around the simple map of a river, based only on the auditive input from the other consultant, who would get a prearranged map. A blind would prevent the consultants to use visual cues for the completion of the task. In this recording, Nyoman has the prearranged map and explains the locations of the referents to Anik.</dc:description>

<dc:description>The consultants play the "Map Task".
The Map Task stimulus set was created by the teacher of the class, Gabriele Schwiertz,
and is a variation of the classic map task by (Anderson et al. 1991).

 <dc:title>group session: derivation 2</dc:title>
<dc:description>The group session on derivation examined hypotheses raised by the findings of the preceding session. This included preparing German example sentences, whose Balinese translations could be assumed by the collectors. Furthermore, the collectors prepared and constructed word forms, which were not yet attested in the corpus, but could be assumed to exist on basis of derviational constraints. Translations and word formation could then be verfied or dismissed on the basis of the language consultant's judgements. In cases were word forms were accepted, the consultant was asked to create contexts for possible utterances containing the lexemes.</dc:description>
